| Professor Dr. Monica Heller of the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education is widely-known for her critical, ethnogrpahic sociolinguistic approach to the role of language in the construction of social relations, social categories and social structures as eemplified in her books, Crosswords: Language, Education and Ethnicity in French Ontario, 1994, Linguistic Minorities and Modernity: A Sociolinguistic Ethnography, 1999, co-edited volume with M. Martin-Jones, Voices of Authority: Education and Linguistic Difference, 2001. During her stay she will lead a seminar in Theory, Method and Critique in Ethnographic Sociolinguistic Research at the Kennedy Institute. |
